Rev. Dr. David M. Ceballos is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries serving as a church developer with the Evangelical Methodist Church of Panama (IEMPA), specifically in the area of Punta Delgadita, near Santiago de Veraguas. He and his wife, Cindy, also a missionary, previously served in Honduras and Barcelona, Spain. They were assigned to Panama in early 2012.
The emerging church in Punta Delgadita was begun by IEMPA several years ago and now has some 40 members, a good beginning in a developing urban area with few Protestants out of a total population of 230,000. The congregation is the first for the IEMPA in the center region of Panama. While the new church is in an urban development, Punta Delgadita is surrounded by poor rural communities.
David provides leadership in evangelism, education, and social outreach as the congregation deepens its roots and extends its ministries. Dreams include the building of a sanctuary as well as a multi-purpose center for educational, vocational, and health programs for adults and youth.
An ordained elder of the Northwest Texas Annual Conference, David has served as a pastor both in Texas, Spain, Honduras, and Panama. He previously served as the Country Director of United Methodist Mission Initiative in Honduras.
"My call to mission came through participation in several Volunteers-in-Mission trips," David says. "I came to the realization that I could be most effective in cross-cultural ministry. I also came to the conviction that I would rather utilize my grace gifts where there is not an abundance of Christian resources."
He attended Pan American University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, two master's degrees, one in theology (M.Div.) and in religious education (M.R.E.) from Southwestern Seminary in Texas and a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership at Northcentral University.
David and Cindy are the parents of six adult children: Tanji, Randall, Sasha, Mike, Sophia, Gabriel, and four grandchildren.
